Carved from warm-toned sandstone, this refined representation of Vishnu embodies the sculptural elegance of early medieval North India. The deity stands in a composed frontal stance, adorned with an intricately detailed kirita-mukuta, layered necklaces, and finely articulated drapery that cascades with rhythmic precision.

The surface reveals a remarkable density of hand-carved ornamentation, from the delicate jewellery to the subtle texturing of the garment and attendant forms. Despite its relatively intimate scale, the sculpture commands presence through its balanced proportions and serene expression. The fragmentary backing slab, retaining traces of auxiliary figures and architectural motifs, enhances its archaeological authenticity while preserving its sculptural integrity.

Time has imparted a soft patina, enriching the tactile quality of the stone. Held in a distinguished private collection in Lucknow for over five decades, the work reflects both devotional craftsmanship and the enduring aesthetic of classical Indian stone carving.
